The Juice: Information for Safer Gains

Initially launched in 2021 by Hepatitis Australia and AIVL, The Juice provides trusted information focusing on harm reduction for people who inject performance and image-enhancing drugs (PIEDs), including anabolic steroids.

Injecting PIEDs carries higher risks for blood-borne viruses, such as hepatitis B and hepatitis C, and recent data show it’s now the third most commonly injected substance in Australia.

Between 2024 and 2025, Hepatitis Australia and AIVIL worked with AIVL’s peer network of steroid users, Your Community Health Steroid Education Program, Australian Research Centre in Sex, Health and Society (ARCSHS), Blue Mountains Nepean LHD needle and syringe program nursing team, and Health Equity Matters to ensure The Juice stays accurate and relevant. People with lived experience of injecting PIEDs played an essential part in shaping the content to ensure it meets the real needs of the community.

Re-launched in 2025 with AIVL, The Juice continues to share clear harm reduction guidance and practical tips for safer PIED use.
