Who we are

Hepatitis Australia is the national peak community organisation working to eliminate hepatitis B and hepatitis C in Australia. We represent eight state and territory community hepatitis organisations and advocate for the rights, health, and dignity of people affected by viral hepatitis.

Our purpose is to enable everyone to live free from the impact of viral hepatitis.

Our story

Founded in 1997, Hepatitis Australia brings more than 25 years of experience in advocacy, community engagement, and national coordination. We’ve been part of Australia’s hepatitis response from the beginning, and we’re committed to elimination.

How we work

Our goal is a future where no one has to live with viral hepatitis. We’re working to eliminate hepatitis in Australia by 2030 through advocacy, partnerships, and community-led action.

We work with people affected by hepatitis, as well as health workers, researchers and governments. Together, we aim to break down barriers, shape policy, and make real change across Australia and the Asia-Pacific region.

What guides us

We lead with curiosity, focus on equity, and work to create impact. Our values shape every decision we make.

Moving forward

The voices of people and communities affected by hepatitis shape our work. Their experiences help us focus on what matters most.

Our Strategic Plan sets out the key goals we’re working on to support progress toward eliminating hepatitis. It’s a people-focused plan that reflects our commitment to working together to reduce the impact of hepatitis in Australia.

About community hepatitis organisations

Hepatitis community organisations are an important part of achieving hepatitis elimination in Australia. They provide education, outreach, and treatment support in local communities. Being on the ground means they can connect directly with people, understand local needs, and give clear, practical help so people can get the care and information they need.
