The Australian Multicultural Health Collaborative are looking for people from across Australia to help lead our work representing the voice of multicultural communities.

  • 8 Members will be carers. A carer is someone who looks after another person (usually a family member or a friend) who needs help because of a health condition or disability.
  • 8 Members will be healthcare consumers. A healthcare consumer is someone who uses health services.

Together, the 16 members will represent: different cultural or ethnic backgrounds, languages, religions/faiths, and equal numbers of men and women.

What is the Australian Multicultural Health Collaborative? 

The Australian Multicultural Health Collaborative (the Collaborative) is the national peak body for multicultural health. They represent the diverse voices of our members who include: consumers and carers, multicultural health and social care services, practitioners, researchers and affiliate  organisations. They are establishing a new national network of multicultural consumers and carers from diverse backgrounds to bring the voices of consumers and carers together to create positive improvements in the healthcare system for multicultural Australia. 

The Network will:

  • Give advice and suggestions, based on their personal experiences, to improve health and  wellbeing for multicultural communities.
  • Help us explain to the Government what difficulties people from multicultural backgrounds have in getting the right health care and suggest how things could be better.

What will Network members need to do?

  • Attend online orientation and training on Tuesday 07 of November 2023 (10am-1pm Australian Eastern Daylight Time).
  • If possible, attend the National Multicultural Health and Wellbeing Conference in Sydney  from 20-22 November 2023. (The costs of conference registration, travel and accommodation will be covered). 
  • Attend Network meetings:
    • a minimum of 3 online meetings (half a day) per year
    • 1 face-to-face in person meeting (two days).

What support will members get?

  • The Collaborative values the contribution of members and will reimburse you for 
    • Your time in preparing for and attending meetings
    • Any reasonable expenses (such as travel, carparking and childcare).

How do I apply?

  • Complete the online application form by Tuesday 31 October 2023 (9.00 am Australian Eastern Daylight Time).
  • All applications will be reviewed and those who will best give the balance needed will be invited to take part in a short online interview in the week beginning Wednesday 1 November 2023.
