COMMUNITY SCHOLARSHIPS TO THE VIRAL HEPATITIS AND CO-INFECTION CONFERENCE

The purpose of these scholarships are to support community members from viral hepatitis affected communities to participate in the Viral Hepatitis and Co-Infection Conference in Meanjin/Brisbane on 21 and 22 July 2023.

 The community scholarship include:

  • Travel to and from the conference,
  • Accommodation,
  • Full conference registration (including the conference dinner),
  • Per diem for meals not covered by the conference.

Eligibility and Conditions

To be eligible you:

  • Are able attend the conference in person on 21 and 22 July 2023 in Meanjin (Brisbane)
  • Live in Australia
  • Have lived experience of hepatitis B and/or hepatitis C and/or be from an affected community or priority population and/or as a volunteer or peer of a non-government community hepatitis and/or peer based organisation

Priority will be given to those who:

  • Do not have access to other sources of funding to attend the conference.
  • Have not been to the conference before.

Optional:

  • Scholarship awardees will be encouraged to ‘buddy’ with community representatives
  • Scholarship awardees will be invited to a ‘meet and greet’ with other community representatives

The community organisations supporting these community scholarships are: AIVL, Hepatitis Australia, Hepatitis B Voices Australia, NACCHO, and Scarlet Alliance.

These community scholarships are funded by ASHM; ARCHS, LaTrobe; Burnet Institute; Health+Law, UTS; Hepatitis Australia; Hep B Past & Menzies Institute; Kirby Institute, UNSW; and the WHO Collaborating Centre on Viral Hepatitis, Doherty Institute.

The scholarships are administered by ASHM, as the conference organisers.

SCHOLARSHIPS FOR ABORIGINAL HEALTH AND HEALTH PROMOTION WORKERS TO THE INDIGENOUS PEOPLES CONFERENCE ON HIV AND HEPATITIS HEALTH EQUITY 

Indigenous Peoples Conference – HIV & Hepatitis Health Equity, 21 July 2023
OPTIONAL day registration at IHCVHEC (limited spaces), 22 July 2023 OR
OPTIONAL 1 day at IAS conference 
(limited spaces), 23 July 2023 

APPLICATION DEADLINE:  11:59pm AEST 18 June 2023

To be eligible you must:

  • Be living and working in Australia
  • Be an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Health Worker or Practitioner OR
  • Be an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Sexual Health or BBV Health Promotion Officer/ Coordinator 
  • Identify as an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person OR
  • Identify as a person with lived experience of hepatitis B and/or hepatitis C and/or HIV
  • Complete the application form truthfully, and agree to advise ASHM if you situation changes.

Scholarships will focus on enabling participation by people from regional and remote areas, and staff working in the Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Sector.


Scholarship Inclusions: 

  • Full attendance to the Indigenous Peoples Conference – HIV and Hepatitis Health Equity, 21 July 2023
  • Optional Day registration to the International HIV Coinfection and Viral Hepatitis Elimination Conference, 22 July 2023
  • Optional Day Registration for the International AIDS Society HIV Science Conference, 23 July 2023
  • Return economy class flights to Brisbane (as per availability booked by an ASHM representative as Best Fare of the day)
  • Accommodation (at a hotel nominated by ASHM, for the duration of the conference/s only)
