Are you a person living with Hepatitis B and/or HIV in Australia?

Health+Law are seeking expressions of interest from people to join the Health+Law Steering Committee. Health+Law is a collaborative research project to understand and eliminate legal barriers to testing, treatment and good quality of life for people living with Hepatitis B and/or HIV in Australia.

The project is jointly run by the Faculty of Law at UTS, Hepatitis Australia, NAPWHA, the HIV/AIDS Legal Centre and ASHM.

We are seeking to fill three positions on the Steering Committee:

  1. One position for a person living with HIV;
  2. One position for a person living with hepatitis B;
  3. One position for a person with experience of migrating to Australia, who is living with hepatitis B and/or HIV.

What does the role involve?

As a member of the Steering Committee, you will be involved in supporting the conduct of the research project by contributing to the governance of the project. You will be appointed to the Steering Committee by the Lead Chief Investigator, Dr David Carter. You can find more detailed information about the work of the Steering Committee in the attached Terms of Reference.

How much time will be required?

The role will require approximately three meetings per year of approximately 2 hours duration. These meetings will be held via Zoom and so you can participate no matter where you are based in Australia.

What support will I receive?

You will receive support in this role by Dr David Carter, and other researchers. You will also be able to receive support from Hepatitis Australia and/or The National Association of People with HIV Australia (NAPWHA). If you would like to learn more about participating in committee meetings and governance processes, we can arrange for information or training to assist you in developing those skills.

You or your organisation will be offered payment for your time spent preparing and attending meetings according to our Paid Participation Policy. For most meetings, this would be a payment of between $170 and $250 which includes payment for attending the formal meeting and normal preparation time. We can provide a copy of the Paid Participation Policy and further information regarding remuneration should you have any queries.
