Australia aims for 13,500 Hep C patients in treatment by 2018

Australian medical experts have identified that if 13,500 people with hepatitis C were treated with the ‘breakthrough’ medications by 2018, rates of advanced disease and mortality would fall by about 50 per cent.

However, if these treatments are introduced at the current rates - treating about 2,500 patients per year - then there is only a marginal benefit of about four per cent improvement in morbidity and mortality.
