2009 National Hepatitis Health Promotion Conference
Invitation to submit an abstract

Community workers, health workers, educators, researchers and volunteers are invited to submit abstracts for oral, or poster, presentations.
Abstracts are sought for presentations discussing projects of strategies that promote the health of people living with viral hepatitis, prevent viral hepatitis transmission, raise awareness of viral hepatitis and/ or engage affected communities, and demonstrate the effectiveness of grass roots action that has affected change at a higher level.
In keeping with the theme ‘Grass Roots to National Action,’ the conference will showcase projects and strategies used across Australia to engage key populations in hepatitis prevention, education and health maintenance.
All abstracts are to be submitted by the 31st July 2009.
Submitting an abstract:
To submit an abstract for an oral, or poster presentation, you are required to download and complete the Abstract Submission Form.

Completing the Abstract Submission Form requires you to provide the following information:
- Full name and contact details of all authors
- Nominated contact person for this abstract
- Nominated theme that you believe is most relevant to your presentation
- Title of your presentation
- Whether the abstract is being submitted for an oral or poster presentation
- 150-350 word written abstract. This should include:
- A brief overview of the rationale behind the project/ strategy (why was the project undertaken?).
- A brief description of the project/ strategy.
- A brief description of the strengths and weaknesses of the project/ strategy.
- You may also wish to include a brief discussion of the challenges encountered in undertaking the project.
Preference will be given to abstracts that address the following sub-themes:
- Health Promotion – Utilising new technologies and social networking sites
- Health Promotion – Empowering communities
- Building partnerships and working collaboratively
- Health Promotion – The role of peers
- Health Promotion projects that demonstrate effectively working with priority population such as
- Prisoners
- Indigenous communities
- CALD communities
- Youth
- People who inject drugs
- People living with hepatitis
Poster Guidelines
Visual presentations of projects for display in print or electronic form, in the conference hall will need to adhere to a few guidelines.
Posters should be:
- Clearly organised
- Easy to read from at least 2 metres away
- All posters should fit into a 1 x 1 metre space on display.
Posters will be displayed throughout the conference with an official viewing scheduled in the program.
Authors of posters are not required to formally present their posters. However, authors are encouraged to be accessible near their posters during morning and afternoon tea breaks to further discuss their poster with other delegates.

Oral Presentation Guidelines
Oral presentations are expected to be 15 minutes in length. Authors will be asked to participate in question time at the end of the session.
Criteria for Evaluations of Submissions
Abstracts will be considered by an inter-agency working party and will be assessed according to the following criteria:
- Conference aim: Does the abstract support the aim of the conference and contribute to professional discussion related to one of the conference streams?
- Overall quality
- Abstract format: Is the abstract structured as requested?
Authors will be notified whether or not their abstract has been selected by 31st August 2009
