National Hepatitis Health Promotion Conference 2011 - Joining the Dots for successful health promotion
The 2011 National Hepatitis Health Promotion Conference was held at the Hotel Grand Chancellor, Brisbane, on 24 and 25 November.
The theme for the 2011 conference was Joining the Dots for Successful Health Promotion. The conference demonstrated and explored programs, projects and practices that used a mix of collaborations, interventions, and/or capacity-building strategies to deliver successful viral hepatitis health promotion.
Conference Aims
The primary aim of the National Hepatitis Health Promotion Conference was to increase the knowledge and skills of the community-based viral hepatitis workforce and community workers to effectively reach and engage with identified target groups, and to plan, implement and evaluate successful viral hepatitis health promotion projects. The conference further aimed to:
- Provide networking opportunities to promote sharing of information and experiences
- Create an environment conducive to increasing the confidence of community workers in presenting at conferences and workshops.
This two-day conference featured:
- Plenary addresses from health promotion experts
- Skills workshops
- Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people’s workshop
- Presentations on successful viral hepatitis health promotion projects, programs and practices
- Facilitated discussions on topical issues
Hepatitis Australia would like to thank the Project Reference Group, Hepatitis QLD, keynote speakers, session chairs, abstract paper presenters, workshop facilitators and all delegates for helping to make the conference an overall success. The next National Hepatitis Health Promotion Conference will be held in 2013.
Special thanks must also go to comedian Anh Do, who both amused and inspired delegates at the conference dinner with stories of his life growing up as a refugee in Australia.
The National Hepatitis Health Promotion Conference was supported by the Australian Government Department of Health and Ageing.
